Cycling in Bhutan
Ride cycle through the high and low valleys of Bhutan
The itinerary is a pioneering and exciting adventure where you will have the opportunity to ride genuinely on a huge range of spectacular trails including some of the most thrilling and dramatic single-track. You will ride through beautiful villages along lush paddy fields and pristine forests. Also you will visit some of the important sites including Tiger’s Nest Monastery.
What’s included?
All meals, tea and snacks, complementary bottled water in car, hotels, transport, guide, government levy, visa fee, entrance fees, permits and sightseeing. On trek includes – sleeping tents, dinning tents, toilet and shower tents, toilet seats, mats, duffle bags, cooking utensils, all meals, guide, trek chef assistants and horses.
What’s NOT included?
Flight tickets, insurance, tips, drinks and beverages, sleeping bag on trek, laundry, internet, phone and other bills of personal nature.
Day 1
Arrive Paro
During the flight on a clear day, you can see breathtaking views of the Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous Himalayan peaks including the sacred Mount Jomolhari and Jitchu Drake. After lunch, sightseeing in Paro or ride to Drukgyal Dzong (Total 25 km). Overnight in Paro.
Day 2
Paro – Haa Valley
After breakfast, we will drive to Haa Valley. From Chele La pass you will ride downhill to Haa valley, 26 km (1-2 hours) through bluepine forest with breathtaking view of surrounding mountains and villages. These stretch of road is perfect for riding as there is hardly a traffic. Upon arrival, visit to Lhakhang Karpo and stroll in the town. You could continue ride till your hotel. Overnight in Haa.
Day 3
Haa – Thimphu
Today you will ride from your hotel till Chuzom (confluence) which is about 80 km (3-4 hours). This is all on a good and fairly level road-with very little traffic. For 40 km we follow the Haa river gently downhill passing through many settlements and arrive at Chuzom, a main high way junction where roads from Paro and Thimphu meet here. Then you will enjoy drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 4
Thimphu – Punakha
After breakfast, you will drive to Dochula Pass (3,100m). If the weather is clear you will be able to enjoy superb views of the high Himalayan mountain peaks. After a relaxing coffee break, you will ride dowhill till Punakha, 55 km (2-3 hours). The wide and pleasant road with switch backs will make you more fun and interesting. Time permits visit Punakha Dzong. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 5
Punakha – Trongsa
Following breakfast, drive till Pela La Pass (3320m). From the Pass, you will enjoy riding downhill passing through beautiful villages and arrive at Trongsa, 68 km (3-4 hours). Overnight in Trongsa.
Day 6
Trongsa – Bumthang
In the morning we will visit Trongsa Dzong. It is the ancestral home of our Royal family. From Yotong La Pass (3,425m) you will ride till Chumey Valley, 30 km (2-3 hours). The spectacular winding road through bluepinee forest will give our rider immense fun. From Chumey you will be taken by your comfortable car to Bumthang. Overnight in Bumthang.
Day 7
Bumthang – Ura Valley
After breakfast you will drive to Ura Valley located at 3,100m. You will visit some farm houses and enjoy a cup of Yak Butter Tea. After hot pack lunch, you will drive to Ura La (3,590m) from where you will have a downhill loop riding from the old motorable road that connect to Bumthang town. Distance 40 km (3-4 hours). Overnight in Bumthang.
Day 8
Bumthang – Wangdue
Today drive back to Wangdue. En route, we will stop at Chengdebji Chorten which was built in the 18th century by Lama Shida in Nepalese style with eyes painted at four cardinal points. Lunch will be served in Chazam. After lunch, continue drive to Wangdue. Overnight in Wangdue. (Option- from Pele La Pass you could ride till Wangdue. (Distance-60km).
Day 9
Wangdue – Paro
After breakfast in the hotel, you will drive to Paro. En route in Thimphu, visit Memorial stupa, built in the memory of our 3rd king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Buddha Point, newly built bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni measuring 169 feet and known for the tallest statue in the world and Paper factory, displaying the Bhutanese paper making process. Evening drive to Paro. Overnight in Paro.
Day 10
Paro (Taktshang Hike)
Today you will hike to Tiger’s Nest. It is one of the holiest and most sacred Buddhist temples in the world. It is located in the middle of the cliff offering the best view of Paro valley. The Tantric master Guru Rinpoche, who brought Buddhism to Bhutan transformed into one of his 8 different forms and flew from eastern Bhutan to this place where monastery now stands. Overnight in Paro.
Day 11
Depart to Paro Airport
After breakfast, you will drive to the airport for departure. Our Bhutan VIP Travel representative will bid you farewell.
