Dochula Druk Wangyal Festival
A festival of victory dedicated to 4th King of Bhutan
What’s included?
All meals, tea and snacks, complementary bottled water in car, hotels, transport, guide, government levy, visa fee, entrance fees, permits and sightseeing. On trek includes – sleeping tents, dinning tents, toilet and shower tents, toilet seats, mats, duffle bags, cooking utensils, all meals, guide, trek chef assistants and horses.
What’s NOT included?
Flight tickets, insurance, tips, drinks and beverages, sleeping bag on trek, laundry, internet, phone and other bills of personal nature.
Day 1 (December 12)
Arrive Paro – Thimphu
Arrive at Paro airport and transfer to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. After lunch, enjoy some sightseeing in Thimphu with a visit to King’s Memorial Chorten (which was built in honor of late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck), School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the painting school), National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Buddha Point, and Motithang Takin Preserve. In the evening, visit the Tashi Chhoedzong, known as the “Fortress of Glorious Religion”. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 2 (December 13)
Festival – Drive to Punakha
After breakfast we will drive to Dochu La pass and attend Druk Wangyal Festival. Later in the evening we will drive to Punakha. Overnight at hotel in Punakha.
Day 3 (December 14)
Punakha – Paro
In the morning we will visit Punakha Dzong. This dzong was the second dzong built in Bhutan and it served as the capital and seat of government until Thimphu became the capital in 1950s. It’s arguably the most beautiful dzong in the country, especially in spring when the lilac-coloured jacaranda trees bring a lush sensuality to the Dzong’s characteristically towering whitewashed walls. Next hike to Chimi Lhakhang, fertility temple and then proceed to Paro. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 4 (December 15)
Paro – Hike to Taktshang
You will have fantastic conclusion to your stay in Bhutan by hiking to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery, the most famous pilgrim site, which clings to the rock at 3,180m. According to the legend, it is believed that Guru Rimpoche, the 8th century Spiritual Master, flew to this location on the back of a tigress to meditate. Lunch will be served at Cafeteria Restaurant halfway up on the mountain. Explore the monastery and hike back to Paro. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 5 (December 16)
Depart to Paro Airport
After breakfast, drive to Paro airport for flight to onward destination. Our Bhutan VIP Travel representative will bid you farewell.
